Babylonia sp
Babylon Snails, also known as Leopard or Tiger Nassarius snails, are larger snails that make an excellent addition to fish-only or reef aquariums with sand beds. These nocturnal creatures typically become visible later in the day or evening after the aquarium lights are turned off. Babylon Snails are beneficial as they clean and aerate sandy substrates and scavenge for uneaten food and decaying organics, much like Nassarius snails.
These snails can grow to about 3 inches and thrive in aquariums of all sizes, especially those containing fish or other animals that require supplemental meaty foods. While there have been reports of Babylon Snails preying on gastropods (snails), we have not observed this behavior in our Aquaculture Coral and Aquatic Life facility, where they are maintained in various sandy substrate aquariums. However, they are known to prey on bivalves such as small clams, so it is advisable to avoid keeping them in tanks with Tridacna spp. clams.
As scavenging omnivores, Babylon Snails consume uneaten food, decaying organics, and detritus. To supplement their diet, offer small pieces of minced fresh fish or krill, and high-quality meaty frozen foods that they can feed on from the bottom of the tank.
